Manually Install Drivers on Windows
Learn how to install Arduino drivers manually on Windows 7, Vista & 10.
The following instructions are for Windows 7, Vista and 10. They are valid also for Windows XP, with small differences in the dialog windows. In the following instruction only the Leonardo board will be mentioned, but the same procedure is valid for all the Arduino boards.
Plug in your board and wait for Windows to begin its driver installation process. If the installer does not launch automatically, navigate to the Windows Device Manager (Start>Control Panel>Hardware) and find the Arduino Leonardo listing. Right click and choose Update driver.
At the next screen, choose “Browse my computer for driver software”, and click Next.
Click the Browse… button. Another dialog appears: navigate to the folder with the Arduino software that you just downloaded. Select the drivers folder an click OK, then click Next.
You will receive a notification that the board has not passed Windows Logo testing. Click on the button Continue Anyway.
After a few moments, a window will tell you the wizard has finished installing software for Arduino Leonardo. Press the Close button.

In this article, we’ll show how you can install all the tools you need in less than 10 minutes.
How can I download Arduino Nano driver on Windows 10?
In order to avoid Arduino problems on your PC, it’s important that you have the necessary drivers installed.
The lack of drivers will lead to certain issues, such as Arduino port not showing up for example, so you can see why it’s important to keep drivers up to date.
This will also lead to Arduino upload error, therefore visit the official website and download the latest drivers from there.
How to install Arduino software on Windows 10
Download Arduino IDE to your Windows PC.
Wait until the download process completes > install the software and choose the components that you want to install, as well as the install location
Accept driver installation when prompted by Windows 10
If you choose to select the Zip package, you should know that you need to install the board drivers manually.
How to install Arduino drivers on Windows 10
Go to Start > type ‘device manager’ > double click the first result to launch the Device Manager.
Go to Ports > locate the Arduino UNO port
In case you can’t find that port, go to Other Devices and locate Unknown Device
Select the Arduino UNO port > click on Update Driver
Select the option ‘Browse my computer for Driver software’ > go to the Arduino software download location > select the arduino.inf file/Arduino UNO.inf (depending on your software version)
Wait until Windows finishes the driver install process.
Installing drivers manually can be a hard task if you do this for the first time. Another option is to automatically install your drivers with a professional driver updater tool that can help you save time and safely install the drivers you need in seconds.
Now that you installed the Arduino software and driver on your computer, it’s time to open your first sketch. Select your board type and port and upload a program to make sure that your board is up and running.

Installing drivers for the Seeeduino with window7
Plug in your board and wait for Windows to begin its driver installation process. After a few moments, the process will fail.
Open the Device Manager by right clicking “My computer” and selecting control panel.
Look under Ports (COM & LPT). You should see an open port named “USB Serial Port” Right click on the “USB Serial Port” and choose the “Update Driver Software” option.
Next, choose the “Browse my computer for Driver software” option.
Finally, select the driver file named “FTDI USB Drivers”, located in the “Drivers” folder of the Arduino Software download.
Note: the FTDI USB Drivers are from Arduino. But when you install drivers for other Controllers, such as Xadow Main Board, Seeeduino Clio, Seeeduino Lite,
you need to download corresponding driver file and save it. And select the driver file you have downloaded.
The below dialog boxes automatically appears if you have installed driver successfully.
You can check that the drivers have been installed by opening the Windows Device Manager. Look for a “USB Serial Port” in the Ports section.
You can also see the serial port in Arduino environment.
Installing drivers for the Seeeduino with window8
You should save these files which you are editing before installing driver with window8,because there will several power off during operating.
Press “Windows Key” +”R”
Enter shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00
Click the “OK” button.
System will restart to a “Choose an option” screen
Select “Troubleshoot” from “Choose an option” screen
Select “Advanced options” from “Troubleshoot” screen
Select “Windows Startup Settings” from “Advanced options” screen
Click “Restart” button
System will restart to “Advanced Boot Options” screen
Select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
Once the system starts, you can install the Arduino drivers as same as Windows
Installing drivers for the Seeeduino with Mac OS
Download Driver for the Mac OS X version, named 2.2.18 (32bit)
Open the driver file which you just download, and double click FTDIUSBSerialDriver_10_4_10_5_10_6_10_7.mpkg
After double click, you will see an installer window.
You can see the below dialog boxes if you have installed driver successfully.

Tech Tip: Updating drivers manually requires some computer skills and patience. A faster and easier option is to use the Driver Update Utility for Arduino to scan your system for free. The utility tells you which specific drivers are out-of-date for all of your devices.
To get the latest driver, including Windows 11 drivers, you can choose from the above list of most popular Arduino downloads. Click the “Download driver” button next to the matching model name. After you complete your download, move on to Step 2.
If your driver is not listed and you know the model name or number of your Arduino device, you can use it to search our driver archive for your Arduino device model. Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
Select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions.
In most cases, you will need to reboot your computer in order for the driver update to take effect.
Tech Tip: Driver downloads and updates come in a variety of file formats with different file extensions. For example, you may have downloaded an EXE, INF, ZIP, or SYS file. Each file type has a slighty different installation procedure to follow.

Okay, so I got a genuine Arduino UNO R3 here. Running windows 10. It is updated. I also have the 1.8.13 version of the Arduino IDE. All is working well, I then have an issue uploading a sketch to the board and go to the ports tab and see that it is greyed out. I look up a solution on these forums that is a few years old that says to uninstall, unplug, replug, then reinstall and that should fix it. I go to device manager to uninstall, unplug, replug, and the computer doesn’t reinstall automatically as the post said it would, and I can’t figure out how to reinstall the driver. Whereas before it would say “Arduino Uno” under either the “other devices” or “ports” section on device manager, I only ever get “unknown USB device” under the “universal serial bus controllers” section
When plugged into the computer it makes the connection noise. The error it gives is “USB Device not recognized”. When I go to device manager the associated port says “unknown USB device”. I right-click on it and select update driver. I go to “Browse my computer for drivers”. I locate the driver folder at C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\drivers and select next. Windows says “the best drivers for your device are already installed”* and still lists the device as an unknown USB device. I go back and choose “let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer”. I click on “have disk” and again navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\drivers and click next. I get the error “the folder you specified doesn’t contain a compatible software driver for your device. if the folder contains a driver make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems.” I search the web and find that disabling the driver signature requirement sometimes helps, so I hold shift while the computer is restarting, get to the blue screen with the troubleshooting options, restart and press 7 to select “disable driver signature enforcement”. Go through the same process as described above and still get the errors as described before.
I even uninstalled and reinstalled the IDE. Bupkiss.
I have been at this for 5 hours now, I am losing my mind. I don’t know if this is relevant but I have two knockoff Arduino Uno boards that literally will work only every other day. So if I plug in board A and use it, it won’t work the next day, but board B will and I have to use that one instead, then the next day B won’t work and I have to use A again, and so on and so forth. Hence receiving the genuine Uno board for x-mas hoping to eliminate this issue, under the impression it was just an issue with the knock-offs. To be fair it was working for a few hours until I followed the advice to uninstall from the device manager.

Hello Gozeraye, I just wrote a huge post about this and it got deleted. This problem is not you. There is something wrong with this update. I regret installing 1.8.13. I lost my entire sketch book, I’m devastated. The IDE freezes Everytime it detects the smallest error in sketchs. It run odd all together, it has trouble loading libraries, the list of issue will take up probably 5 pages here, so I’m not going to list them all again. But I have not changed anything in my setup. No uninstalls, same Arduinos I’ve been using for over 2 years with no problems. Absolutely nothing has been changed except installing the new update. Something is wrong with the program. I hope we get a response from this, because I lost a year’s worth of work.
al514: Please do not muddy the water here – you are reporting a completely different issue than the OP (and your problems are also unique to you or your system… you have confirmed that the Arduino folder within your documents folder no longer contains your sketches?).
Why am I having so many issues after updating then? And if we’re supposed to do all this deactivating of system tools, why is that not in the instructions for installing? I’m trying not to over react but it’s extremely frustrating. I apologise for that, believe me, get aggravated like this isn’t part of my personality. what should I try? The IDE just freezes and beeps at me if I push anything
I disconnected what I had connected to it (a 4 row lcd with backack and a DS3231 clock module) and reinsierted the cable. The system recognized it as an arduino uno r3 and it shows in the device manager. Huzzah. I will remember this trick in the future. Do you know why that changes how the computer sees the board?
Huzzah aside, i am getting the error I got before which led me to delete the board from the device manager in the first place. I turned on verbose compile and upload messages and have the following error:
Using Port : COM3
Using Programmer : arduino
Overriding Baud Rate : 115200
avrdude: ser_open(): can’t open device “\\.\COM3”: Access is denied.

I think I will reinstall the previous version, I also read that the update had a new breakout window for working with the code? Where is that? Very confused here. I mean I love all this and the idea, but it takes a long time to learn how to use these boards. Everything was so good before.
